How the LabNote website and the LabNote Windows app handle information.

Last updated 5 October 2026

This website

  • It is a static site. It sets no cookies and runs no analytics or trackers.
  • Its fonts are served from the site itself, so loading a page makes no requests to other companies.
  • It is hosted on Cloudflare Pages. Cloudflare processes standard request data, such as IP addresses, to deliver and protect the site. See Cloudflare’s privacy policy.
  • There are no forms or accounts on this site.

The LabNote app

  • Your experiments are stored in a local database on your PC. LabNote does not upload them to a LabNote server.
  • Review files (.labnote) go only where you send or save them: to the person you send them to, or to the shared folder you choose.

The optional lookups

These go online only when you use them. Each sends what you looked up to the public service named, and that service handles it under its own policy.

Reagent data (CAS number, density, names)
The reagent name or the structure you drew is sent to PubChem (pubchem.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov) and to the NCI Chemical Identifier Resolver (cactus.nci.nih.gov).
Reference by DOI
The DOI you typed or pasted is sent to doi.org.
Reference by article title
The title you typed is sent to Crossref (api.crossref.org).

Recording, searching, printing and exporting your experiments need no internet connection.
